More Mazatlan photos

Our nephew, Rhett, joined us with his clown gear that he used traveling in China. He's a "Joggler", that's someone who juggles as he jogs. He even attended an international Jogglers convention!     Mazatlan is the only Mexican town on the ocean so a cathedral and square in front of it. Jacqueline is showing off her new veneers compliments of a dentist in Guadalajara, $2,100 for six. Children learning classical music at one of the museums. Rhett took this photo of us on the beach in front of our condo. Walking in warm weather is one of the biggest draws for me - plus good restaurants. Negative? poor sidewalks   I love the tropical plants. And the peeling buildings: The sunsets can't be beat!

We're in Guaudalajara, 2nd largest city in Mexico, a medically oriented city. We're getting treatments from a wonderful Orthopedic Surgeon who is giving us shots. First he gives a combo of hyaluronic acid, colagen, ozone, and dmso. Then, if and when our system is ready, he gives us stem cell shots. My shoulder pain has decreased radically; Steve also feels enormous relief. We're old friends with Regina Ochoa whose family was one of the original movers and shakers in Guadalajara. Her father was one of the founders of the country club - very wealthy until a year or two of drought when he lost a lot. Regina's family lived in a home next door to the country club. Every day her mother would tell Regina and her 5 sisters and 2 brothers to go over to the country club in the afternoon. Now there is a high rise where her home once stood. Lots of expensive high rises line the streets leading up to the club. Maty still belongs to the club. After a certain age and so many years of...

Carnaval in Mazatlan

Image
Carnaval i n Mazatlan                colorful , loud, riotous   Preparations include giant statues and thousands of chairs set up along the malecon. The main street is blocked off. People dress up and camp out on the sidewalk a day ahead. The beaches are crowded.   The beaches are more crowded. Lots of soldiers dressed in hot uniforms with guns. Do we feel safe now? Hours of elaborate floats with nearly naked, gyrating dancers and fireworks.

We discovered the Golden Zone and Plaza Las Tres Islas: Initially inspired to visit because there was a Fresh Market. It was a huge, amazing store with a large wine market:     Beautiful fresh food displays: Wine Room     Then Los Arcos for dinner where we saw this clever addition to pouring wine that measures out one glass.      Eyeglass shop with lit up frames at back of store:     Back to the innate beauty of MX.   This poem was in my head this morning:   If I were to count my wrinkles They would number more than stars in the sky.   If did my “Organ Recital” It would go from head to gouty toe.   “If” and “If” and “If” F’ing “ifs” - all in a row.   It’s time for pills before breakfast So I got to go.

Great Concert in the beautiful Opera house in Mazatlan.

Image
The Angela Peralta Opera House Great concert! We are so impressed with the music we enjoyed conducted by Gordon Campbell. There were students and professionals in this group. Some students studied at Tanglewood in summer courses and Berkelee School of Music. He's worked despite incredible difficulties with support. We're so happy to help a bit.   In another music venue we heard a captivating concert in which Gordon had a table with horns - ancient ones up to modern French horn. He and three other (very good) horn players gave us samples of each - from the conch shell and shofar, to the first metal horns which had only one note plus a hand placed inside the bell of the horn which the player would move to change pitch, to the modern French horn - plus the politics involved. The very skillful old horn players were disparaging of the valve horn players' tones. They played pieces from each period with the horn that was in use at that time.   Fresh Markets said HAPPY VALENTINES ...

First Carnaval statue put up Lit up puppies: January 25th, 2025 A pudding-consistency gingerbread dessert.                     Steve on the 15 kilometer malecon (boardwalk)                                    Lots of grafitti-like signs:                                                   Doggies lit up for a night walk.     Nephew, Rhett Farber, visited with his fun face masks to enliven the "old folks at home". The guys said this was they're best fried fish ever:   We had to visit the traditional colonial cathedral, of course. We tried to talk Rhett into renting one of these outrageous vehicles. Even the generation after us is too old to be temp...
